Lesson 6

Water Aid

Do you have clean running water and toilets at your school? Of course you do. It’s just normal, right? However, around the world, 1 in 3 schools don’t have access to these basics. This is more than an inconvenience. It’s a barrier holding children back from getting the education and the future they deserve. It’s not fair and it shouldn’t be normal. With no taps or toilets at school, children get sick and miss lessons and they can’t concentrate in class.

What can we do because we have access to clean water?

Why would not having clean water affect you being able to attend school?

Many children living in the poorest communities around the world, do not have taps with clean running water or toilets in their schools. Some schools have toilets but they are in a very bad condition.

Pa goes to school in Madagascar. His school did not have any running water.

Read these two sheets on what life was like before and after clean water was supplied to his school.

What a difference it made to his life!!

Water Aid are an organisation which work all over the world to provide clean water for all the people who live there.

Below is a link to a website which will show you the areas in Africa where they work and what they have managed to achieve.

It is really important that we don't we waste water. It is getting harder and harder to provide the world's growing population with clean water.

Using the resources below we would like you to design a poster to explain to everyone how they can save water.

Have a look through all of the resources and try some of the activities before you think about how to present your ideas.
